Everyone knows that the piece of furniture which helps us to go to sleep is the bed. A spin off from the average bed is bunk beds. They take up less space then two single beds and are ideal when children have to share a room. Bunk beds are not just limited to children's bedroom furniture though. They can also be found on ships, in army camps, summer camps, school dormitories, hostels for the homeless or travelers, prison cells, or residence halls in big universities.
The difference of a bunk bed from a general bed is that it is arranged with four poles on its corners. Poles are connected to hold up the top bunk. Bunk beds are not good for children of six years of age or below due to the fact that to get to the top bunk, one has to climb a ladder. Bunk beds come in copious design and styles. Sometimes also called cabin beds, themed beds or mid sleeper beds. On all of these style, the upper bunk is fenced with a railing in order to keep the occupant from falling out. Some beds are also designed with a secrecy curtain attached around the lower bunk.
Kids Futon Bed
The most general kind of bunk bed style has two mattresses of the same size. However there is also a type comprised of a full-size bed at the lower bunk and a twin-size bed at the upper bunk. Another variety is the futon. The difference is that the lower bunk has a Western-style futon mattress that can be converted into a bed instead of a typical mattress. This is a great design for those who want to have a couch or futon in their room.
The loft bunk bed is basically a top bunk that has no bottom bunk. It is on average five feet from the floor and the free space underneath can be used as storage for a dresser or even a desk. A loft bunk bed makes effective use of limited space more so than other designs. Steel is in particular a cheaper alternative to hard wood when it comes to looking at the material that the beds are made from. Remember though, that while steel can last longer then is also a higher chance of rust.
There are a mass of styles and designs and finding a design that suits your specific requirements can be a little overwhelming. One of the most critical points to bear in mind is to make sure there is good space in the bedroom to fit the beds in. The material of the frame and of course the cost should also be factored in as these are important factors when selecting bunk beds.

The Nomad is made of smooth, clean, unfinished poplar hardwood, not pine. Many of the pine frames on the market have a rough splintery feel. Pine averages 18% moisture content, our hardwood is kiln dried to 8%, which means it's far less likely to split or warp. This pure untreated wood is preferred by many consumers seeking a natural, hypo-allergenic alternative to today's chemical laden products. We have been selling furniture since 1984 and these are the finest quality unfinished bed frames we have seen. *Assembly required. -SORRY, WE DO NOT SHIP TO ALASKA OR HAWAII.SAVE NOW on Black Friday offers below!
